What to expect on surgery day

Arrival and check-in

When you arrive at the center, check in at the reception desk so we can verify your personal, escort and insurance information. Bring your driver's license or photo ID, your insurance card and any payment the front desk has asked you to provide.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and easy slip-on shoes. Please leave valuables and jewelry at home, including body piercings. Do not wear makeup, and bring a case if you wear contact lenses or glasses.

Family and waiting

You are welcome to bring one adult with you to the center. Your companion may be with you before surgery and can sit with you in recovery if you choose. Please refrain from bringing young children as guests. Our waiting area is designed to keep your escort comfortable while you are in surgery.

Preoperative preparation

After check-in you will be brought to the preoperative area, where a nurse will complete a health interview and prepare you for surgery. Women of childbearing years will be asked to provide a urine sample for a preoperative pregnancy test.

Your anesthesia provider will meet with you before you enter the operating room, with time to answer any questions you may have.

Your procedure

Our surgical teams follow rigorous safety protocols in fully equipped, modern operating rooms. The length of your procedure depends on the surgery being performed; your physician can give you the best estimate for your specific case.

Recovery

After your procedure, you will be moved to our recovery area, where nurses will monitor you as the anesthesia wears off. It is normal to feel drowsy. Our team will keep your escort informed and let them join you when you are ready.

Discharge and the ride home

Once our medical staff determines you are safe for discharge, your instructions and any prescriptions from your doctor will be reviewed with you and your escort, and you will receive a written copy. Every patient is escorted to their car by wheelchair, and a responsible adult must drive you home.
