Information for our patients
Answers to common questions about your visit, along with the notices and policies that protect you as a patient.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to visit the center before my surgery?
No. Our nursing staff will contact you by phone before your surgery date to review your health history, gather insurance information and answer your questions. Everything else is handled when you arrive on the day of surgery.
Will I be contacted prior to my day of surgery?
Yes. We call each patient before surgery to gather patient and insurance information and to answer your questions. Preoperative instructions will be provided by the preadmission nurse who calls you.
What if I cannot make my appointment?
Please notify your surgeon and the center as early as possible if you cannot make your scheduled appointment. Early notification helps us accommodate you, other patients and your surgeon.
What should I wear on the day of surgery?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and easy slip-on shoes. Please leave your valuables and jewelry at home, including body piercings. Do not wear makeup, and if you wear contact lenses or glasses, bring a case with you.
Why do I need to stop eating and drinking before surgery?
Fasting prevents the risk of stomach contents entering your windpipe or lungs during surgery. This complication can be very serious, so please strictly follow the fasting times communicated to you.
Should I take my usual daily medication?
Discuss this with your preadmission nurse during your phone call. Some medications will be stopped for surgery, particularly diabetes medications and blood thinners. Bring these medications with you on the day of surgery, and call us with any questions.
Who may accompany me on my day of surgery?
You are welcome to bring one person with you to the center. That person can be with you before surgery and may sit with you afterward if you choose. Please refrain from bringing young children as guests.
What should I do if I believe I am pregnant?
It is very important for us to be aware of this possibility. Only essential surgeries are performed on pregnant patients. If there is any doubt, please contact us immediately.
May I speak to my anesthesiologist before surgery?
Yes. All patients are seen by the anesthesia provider on the day of surgery before entering the operating room, with sufficient time to answer any questions you may have.
May I drive myself home?
No. Patients are not allowed to drive, walk or take public transportation or rideshare home after sedation or anesthesia. A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours after surgery with anesthesia.
